The University of Limassol successfully organised the first national co-creation workshop of the FAIR GAME project, bringing together a group of children aged 11–15 to explore their experiences, perceptions, and habits related to online gaming.
The workshop provided a unique opportunity for children to share their views on the role of gaming in their everyday lives, discussing both the positive aspects of gaming and the challenges they encounter. Participants reflected on topics such as online interactions, safety, inclusion and the potential risks and negative experiences that children may face while gaming.
Through a series of interactive activities, the children also contributed ideas on the development of the FAIR GAME educational materials. Together, they identified key topics that learning resources should address, discussed what children should learn to navigate online gaming environments safely and responsibly, and shared their views on how educational content can be engaging and relevant for young audiences.
The participants also shared their insights and suggestions for the learning material the project will develop for supporting parents and teachers, identifying areas where adults could benefit from greater awareness and understanding of children’s gaming experiences.
The workshop initiated the co-creation process of the project in Cyprus and is to be followed by similar initiatives in the forthcoming period in alignment with FAIR GAME’s commitment in placing children’s perspectives at the centre of its efforts to promote safer, more inclusive, and more positive online gaming environments.
